An extensive 60-day journey around the Australian Coast has been cancelled following the tragic passing of an older lady who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a distant coastal location.

The elderly woman had been trekking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the excursion for a break. The liner left without her and went back later that day after the ship staff discovered the woman was missing.

An extensive hunt discovered her body the subsequent day.

Authorities are investigating the event, together with law enforcement and the medical examiner.

Head of the cruise operator said that passengers and personnel on the vessel were informed that the remainder of the cruise had been terminated due to the "sad loss and prior mechanical issues".

Through an announcement, he further stated that guests would be issued a full refund, and said the company was working "to organize the travel back of the passengers via specially arranged planes".

Authorities also published an updated communication, and said they had "provided a directive to the Commander" banning any new passengers from getting on the vessel.

The official said that they would inspect the vessel in the port city upon its coming back.

The vessel originally sailed from the coastal city on the 24th of October, and was just two days into the voyage at the moment of the elderly woman's death. The remote island was the opening port on the itinerary.

Travelers on board - who typically pay tens of thousands of money to join the voyage - were transported there for a day trip with the choice of trekking or underwater exploration.

The offspring of the victim said that her loved ones was "shocked and saddened that the ship left the island after an planned tour without my parent".

Via her announcement, she described her mum as an "energetic 80-year-old" who was a participant of a hiking group.

"Based on limited facts we have been informed, it looks that there was a breakdown of attention and common sense," she stated.

She added that she wished the investigation would be able to pinpoint what "the operator should have performed that might have protected Mum's being".

"Based on information from the authorities that it was a very hot day, and she became unwell on the mountain ascent," she revealed.

"They requested her to head down, unescorted. Then the ship departed, seemingly without conducting a passenger count.

"During some point in that chain of events, or shortly after, mother passed away, alone."

Organization Response

In a statement, the Chief Executive confirmed that the organization was "cooperating fully with authorities to assist their inquiry".

He mentioned that the company was "deeply sorry that this has happened" and had extended its full support to the loved ones.

Cruise Industry Procedures

The liner accommodates up to 120 travelers with forty-six crew, according to corporate data. It was specially constructed to reach remote areas of the Australian coast and is equipped with "small boats" - minor craft used to transport individuals on land visits.

Occurrences like this are infrequent, and cruise ships have systems to record which passengers are embarking or leaving, according to maritime specialists.

"Leaving covertly or [back] aboard really isn't an option," one expert remarked.

Vessel operators regard these procedures with great importance and have "clever tech in place to stop such occurrences from happening," the authority added.

"This seems to be probably a stunning - and sad - one-off."
